What are Universities For?

As the world changes, economies get stressed and education becomes more expected; the question must be asked:  what is the purpose of a university today?

Traditionally, universities were places where critical thinking was learned in a liberal arts style environment, but the expectations of graduates and parents have changed.  Good education is often seen in relationship to good employment afterwards, but is that the reason universities exist?

Further to the point, do universities need to apply a particular “job-training” to their curriculum?

All of these questions and more are discussed in this episode.
