The Prophetic Imagination of Walter Brueggemann

I first encountered Walter Brueggemann at a conference when I was in formation.  He was so intense and articulate, I felt like the only chance I had at capturing what was saying was to record the presentation and listen to it over and over again.  This week, Krista Tippett shares with us that very idea.

In the realm of Biblical Scholarship and Spirituality, Brueggemann is a rock star/legend.  Though he has commented on all aspects of the Bible, his forte is the Prophets.

“I’ve recently been thinking more and more that it’s so astonishing that the Old Testament prophets hardly ever discuss an issue. They don’t discuss abortion, Panama Canal or anything like that. And I think what they’re doing is they’re going underneath the issues that preoccupy people to the more foundational assumptions that can only be got at in elusive language,” Brueggemann says in the interview.

But this is just one of the attitude shifting ideas contained in this interview, so be sure not to miss it!
